At the time of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident, Yasuyuki Taneichi was practicing community medicine as an orthopedic surgeon in Koriyama, Fukushima prefecture. After getting trained, he started thyroid ultrasound examination of the children in his region a little more than a year after the accident. Though he moved to Ishikawa prefecture at the end of December 2014, he still works for a medical institution in Fukushima Prefecture and carries out thyroid ultrasound examination within the framework of the Fukushima Health Management Survey. Apart from this, he examines children on his own and interacts with the residents in Fukushima prefecture about the health effects of radiation in cooperation with civil society organizations.

講演概要：
2016年3月に先行検査中間とりまとめが発表されたが、その中で１１６人もの小児甲状腺癌（１名良性腫瘍）が発見されたことは、主に放射線の影響とは考えにくいとされ、過剰診断の可能性が高いと言われている。その数ヶ月後から地元報道を中心として、検査縮小方向へ検討する方針が示されてきた。そして、９月１４日に第２４回県民健康調査検討委員会が開催されたが、その中でどのような議論がなされたかその概要を報告する。
Abstract：
An interim report of the preliminary thyroid screening was published in March 2016. It reported 116 cases of child thyroid cancer, of which one case was benign, but judged that they were unlikely to have been caused by radiation, and that, with a high probability, were attributable to an excess of diagnosis. A few months later, the media started to report about the prefectural government’s intention to reduce the survey. The presenter will report the outline of what was discussed in the 24th Prefectural Oversight Committee Meeting for Fukushima Health Management Survey held on September 14, 2016.
